As a child, Robert Waltrip, MD, suffered from asthma. It limited many of his activities, including sports.
“I remember my own physician and how he was able to help me when I would have difficulties,” Dr. Waltrip said. “I remember how he prescribed medications and treatment that allowed me to participate in activities I enjoyed. I admired his compassion and ability to help others with his expertise and knowledge.”
Dr. Waltrip’s childhood physician inspired him to enter the medical field. Fast forward to now, and Dr. Waltrip is celebrating 15 years as a Tri Rivers sports medicine and shoulder surgeon. Through the years, Dr. Waltrip said improving patient outcomes is always his top priority.
“The most rewarding part of my job is seeing patients I have been able to help,” Dr. Waltrip said. “I especially love seeing patients after surgery who are appreciative that I have been able to lessen their pain and improve their function.”
A significant part of that process is using new and innovative technologies to stay on the cutting edge of surgical techniques. For example, when performing shoulder replacement surgery, Dr. Waltrip uses 3D computer planning software that allows for precision in component placement and sizing. This software improves decision-making and saves time in the operating room. Dr. Waltrip’s preoperative planning maximizes patient outcomes and postoperative range of motion.
“It’s one of the highest priorities of my practice,” Dr. Waltrip. “I regularly review the most current medical journals and attend specialty meetings that address cutting edge technologies. My practice continues to evolve based on science and sound principles for the betterment of my patients.”
From 2005 to now, Dr. Waltrip has provided exceptional sports medicine and shoulder care to his patients. He’s proud to be a part of the Tri Rivers team.
“I believe that we have some of the best musculoskeletal providers in the region,” Dr. Waltrip said. “The expertise in varied disciplines at Tri Rivers is unmatched. We provide the whole constellation of musculoskeletal care.”
Dr. Waltrip sees patients at our BHS Crossroads and Cranberry/Mars offices as well as the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. To schedule an appointment with him, or any other Tri Rivers provider, please call 1-866-874-7483 or click here.
